Everyone knows I’m addicted to my slow cooker a.k.a crock pot. I have a category on my blog and a Pinterest board dedicated to crock pot recipes. Also my 30 Clean Quick Dinner Recipes eBook contains 13 crock pot recipes. I am a huge believer slow cooker should be a true set-n-forget appliance otherwise why do you need it?! I try to create as many slow cooker recipes as possible without calling to brown onions or meat first. But sometimes it’s just not possible. Like with Healthy Turkey Chili, Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Chili or Slow Cooker Pasta e Fagioli Soup.
I don’t remember how I learnt about the 3-in-1 multicooker but obviously I did. I immediately went online and found this beauty by Cuisinart. Oh, and the orange recipe is the Crockpot Butter Chicken. So, I contacted Cuisinart and they kindly provided me with a multicooker for a review and I made sure you got a chance to own one too.
So, let’s take a look at this miracle appliance.
So, what is a multicooker? It is basically a slow cooker with brown/saute and steam options. So, you can skip dirtying the pan when preparing recipes that require pre-browning of meat or vegetables before slow cooking. Instead, brown right in the unit. Or you can simply use it as a steamer.
This is a 4 quart multicooker. Cuisinart carries a 6 quart one also. When I first received it, I was sceptical about the size thinking what can I fit in it. Well, it fits a lot. It is a bit heavier than a regular slow cooker but by not much. Overall, it’s a very high quality appliance.
The multicooker consists of 4 parts:
- The base.
- Removable 4-quart nonstick aluminum cooking pot.
- Glass lid with cool-touch handle for clear view and comfortable handling.
- Steaming rack.
The cooking pot is removable, very light and dishwasher safe. I find it very easy to wash by hand.
This is what the base looks like inside when you remove the cooking pot. It’s the heating element that makes the multicooker heavier. I have to say it heats up pretty fast. Much faster than my electric stove burners. Time for a gas stove review.:)
Then there is a steaming rack inside for steaming vegetables. It comes out very easily too.
And then the beautiful extra-large blue backlit LCD display with easy-to-read time and temperature settings.
The multicooker offers 3 cooking modes between which you can switch with one touch of a button:
- Slow cook on high, low, simmer or warm for up to 24 hours. Includes automatic Keep Warm feature for up to 8 hours, so your food will always be warm.
- Brown/Sauté with temperatures up to 400°F – you can adjust the T, like a stove burner. And it does really brown like a regular pan.
- Steam for up to 90 minutes.
