Eggnog, candy canes (least of my favourites), Glade spruce and apple cinnamon candles (love these on sale – I’m cheap), brandy beans (not everyone knows those but I have a special relationship with them), gingerbread man and shortbread cookies…Christmas is here! Hard to believe.
It’s like a hurricane – comes unexpected although everyone knows it’s coming, makes a mess and leaves us to recover. And let me guess, 1 out of 3 has a New Year’s resolution to…to…to go to the gym! That’s right.:)I ‘m not a gym person at all, I work out at home and I’m aware that I’m missing out on a huge segment of social life in North America.
Let me share a secret with you to avoid the disappointment of going on a scale on January 1 – eat and drink in moderation. Yes, that’s why Weight Watchers is so successful. The point is to enjoy healthy food in reasonable amounts. Those who think that I never have a treat are wrong. I do have many many treats, it’s just they are healthy or healthier. And you can do the same.
So, that’s why instead of going to Starbucks and enjoying a short skim milk eggnog latte – 220 calories, 9g of fat, 24g of sugar and $5 out of your pocket, make yourself Light Almond Eggnog Latte with 79 calories, 3g of fat and 10g of sugar.
You can find Almond Eggnog in the organic/natural section’s refrigerator of almost any grocery store. It is called Noel Nog by Earth’s Own Almond Fresh. If you are in Canada the Real Canadian Superstore, Safeway, Save on Foods, Coop, Sobeys has it.

The froth wouldn’t hold for a long time, so I totally get the whipping cream on top photos. I should have taken a photo of my kitchen.:) Plus I honestly hate taking photos of drinks. So please don’t judge!
On a good note I went out and bought a new lens Nikon 50mm – f1.8 D. After my fight with the latte and chicken noodle soup photos I was done. What a difference! So soon you will see improved photos unless I’m hopeless.

Use cold milk for frothing as it will create more foam.
Add protein powder to the coffee-eggnog mix for extra nutrition.
Use shaved chocolate, cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice for topping instead of nutmeg.
Espresso is a special blend of coffee, much stronger than regular coffee, sold in every grocery store. I usually buy Kirkland brand from Costco and make it on a stove top using an espresso maker.
- 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee, double or triple strength
- 1/3 cup almond milk, unsweetened
- 2/3 cup Almond Fresh Noel Nog
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Brew regular coffee double or triple strength or espresso. Pour in a cup. Warm up eggnog in microwave until hot and add to the coffee. Stir to mix together.
- Froth cold milk until a thick layer of foam forms or as per your frother's instructions. If using manual or a wand frother warm up the frothy milk in the microwave until hot. Microwaves temperatures vary. Here is a picture of my manual frother.
- Add hot froth slowly to the cup using the spoon if necessary to scoop up the froth from the bottom. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Enjoy immediately!
