Whether on “Oops, what’s for dinner?!” day, lunch or after an exhausting shopping trip to Costco, I have made healthy instant ramen numerous times in the past month. We haven’t bought ramen for over a decade for health reasons but Costco has convinced me I should get not 1 but 2 packs of Lotus Foods organic ramen on sale. Inside are plain noodle blocks which at first upset me (no poisonous packets but no healthy seasoning either), but I quickly saw fun in making the most flavourful healthy instant…

These ground chicken tacos are the most simple tacos I have made yet. To make the taco filling healthy, I used only 1 lb of ground chicken breast and loaded it with over 1 lb of veggies. And the best part is – there aren’t much extra fixins to prepare because they are all mixed in one humongous size skillet. For once, I made Taco Tuesday a real thing within half an hour. If you personally do not feel like chicken tacos right now, check out my easy shrimp tacos…

Got “a kombucha problem” and don’t like how much it costs? I don’t blame you. Store-bought kombucha costs as much as wine. Shocked? I was too. This reason alone should be enough to get over any aversion towards the jelly fish like looking slimy kombucha “mushroom” and learn making kombucha from scratch at home. Especially with summer around the corner, there is nothing better than a glass of iced kombucha. Not convinced enough? Here is simple math. Do you usually pay $4 per a 16 oz bottle of store…

Ataulfo mangoes are on special in every grocery store in May, $7-10 a box. Also known as champagne mango, smaller in size than “regular” (Tommy Atkins) mango, and of bright yellow colour, Ataulfo mango is very sweet and might become your new go-to mango. It’s exquisite. Whether in a mango slaw or tuna salad with avocado, champagne mango is not just for dessert. The base of this Thai mango curry consists of usual suspects – onions and Thai curry paste, just like in Thai shrimp curry recipe (where squash adds sweetness similar…

How can you “eat your veggies” and also enjoy a bowl of pasta? Just make this florentine pasta recipe where fresh garden meets whole grains in a very generous amount of flavourful Greek yogurt based sauce. Because what pasta is good without sauce unless you are a 5 year old?! I won’t lie, there was a period of time when carbs were my enemy. I cooked spaghetti squash mac and cheese and baked cauliflower biscuits. And don’t get me wrong, these dishes are delicious but I am way more…

Over the years, I came to a safe and concrete conclusion what makes a burger A BURGER is not the patty but rather all the fix ins (fixings? – I do have a hard time remembering this nuance of beautiful English language, so correct me if I am wrong) and how your serve the burger. And I have plenty of my own Canadian Ukrainian hacks, a bit unique for locals, on how I serve the burger for my family. But first, let’s clarify my position on burgers because I…

I love wine! We all know I love wine, for Pete’s sake. Wine has been present in my life every weekend for years. You know how people can’t live without sugar, I can’t live without wine. I, myself, can’t believe I am writing about how I stopped drinking wine for a month, or the fact that I’m doing it (it is merely Day 10 without wine as I’m writing this paragraph), or that I actually did it. So if you have recovered from the shock of this turn…

I am here not to tell you that you should drop your family’s favourite pizza recipe, stop making pizza or that pizza is bad for you. No, none of that is true. What I am here to offer you is an easy flourless oatmeal pizza crust solution, if you are not “a flour girl” (oops, that sounds weird but I like it) like me and are looking for a simple yet lighter Friday night pizza solution. What I mostly love about a rolled oats pizza crust is an absence…

How was your weekend? Mine was great, just what a family weekend should be like – there was no hockey, kids played outside and had sleepovers, adults relaxed and rendered around the house, and we had a good family time biking and visiting neighbours. On Friday, I spent all day perfecting an oatmeal pizza crust. I made a double batch of my BBQ sauce, used chopped chicken I had on hand and pizza turned out to be a BBQ chicken pizza. I made 3 and there was nothing…

We are going to San Francisco and area this July! I’m open to all of your wonderful suggestions to keep me (you know me) and 2 boys (10 and 6 years old) happy. Here is what I have down so far. Days 1 – 2: We are driving from Vancouver, BC and need to stop half way overnight to preserve the sanity. Any good place? Mountain St. Helen’s? Rosenburg? Been to Portland before. Days 3 – 5: We will be staying in Union Square in this hotel (surprise-surprise – complimentary…
