I am on a huge carrot kick (baked oatmeal breakfast bars), probably because I should be, because it is almost Easter?! Yep, when I got home from Mexico and saw all the carrot craziness on Pinterest, I was like “Not a papaya/watermelon season? Works for me”. So here we are, making the most easy, delicious and healthy carrot cake truffles with shredded carrots, coconut flakes, oats, raising and raw almond butter. What I’m trying to say is – in case you are entertaining this Easter and want to…

My right thumb’s knuckle can’t heal properly because I keep grating carrots day after day, baking oatmeal breakfast bars and scooping carrot cake truffles. As I grow up, the more I follow my heart – doing what makes me happy. And right now happy means a lot of carrots baked with a million of superfoods, topped with creamy Greek yogurt “frosting” and eaten for breakfast. Skies know, I suck at cooking breakfast more than oatmeal, so it better be ready for me in the morning. Because honestly what…

It is still much of a lentil casserole season in Vancouver despite almost mid-April. It rains, the air is warm and cherry blossoms are almost here, but it’s not quite a spring we are used to in PNW. I do not mind cloudy skies because it means comfort food cooking without sweating in the kitchen, and probably because we just got back from such a long time in the sun. I didn’t get tired from the sunshine but heat is very exhausting, makes you wanna do nothing, and I’m…

We are back from Mexico and it feels so good to be home. What feels even better is my own kitchen where knives are sharp, pots are stainless steel and stove is gas. Oh, how I have missed my kitchen! No place like home, even without an ocean view my home is so clean, new and beautiful. Now that 10 loads of laundry are done and put away, fridge is stocked and everyone is back into a routine, I can finally cook creatively again. As I was staring at…

If I told you I didn’t miss all the perks of an all inclusive resort at our month long vacation in Cabo, I would be lying. I did and am still not sure whether next time I want to go to an all inclusive resort or rent a place and cook our own food. As I suspected, eating out in Cabo San Lucas is not cheap because it is a popular tourist destination, first of all. Secondly, as a Canadian after I take an average dinner for 4…

We have reached the point of our month long Mexican vacation when we can’t think of tacos being the next meal, are super lazy to drive anywhere or even lift a finger to unload a dishwasher. Boys are dreaming of getting back to school and sports, I’m dreaming of being by myself at least a few hours a day, and Alex would stay here for another month. So yes, it is possible to get tired of doing nothing and I feel finally rested. While sitting by the pool and…

When you travel to Cabo San Lucas by plane you actually land in San Jose Del Cabo airport. 10-15 minute drive and you are in San Jose Del Cabo – a small town with a cobblestone streets centre, a few big stores and a hotel zone along white sandy beach, emerald blue water and the most beautiful waves ever. A 25 minute drive to Cabo San Lucas is called a tourist corridor, and then you arrive into Cabo itself. So, this is what Baja California peninsula is about for…

When we decided to pause our traditional vacation route, an all-inclusive resort (the best option with small kids IMHO) and try to live for a month in Mexico, we knew we had to rent a place. Being completely new to any rental market (we have owned for years now), we were not quite sure what we were looking for but one thing we knew for sure – our condo had to be beachfront with an ocean view. I poked a bit around VRBO website right after we got back…

We have been on our life changing almost month long vacation in Mexico for 18 days now. Time sure does fly when you are having fun. We finally left our compound to go to the farmers market for the second time. The heat and the fact that it is nearly impossible to suggest any other activity to the boys besides the pool and beach (once they are loaded in the van it is all good though), make me and Alex super lazy. Honestly, I don’t even feel like posting any…

Downtown Cabo San Lucas On Sunday, we ventured out to explore downtown Cabo San Lucas, visit Medano Beach and go for dinner. The main mall, Puerto Paraiso, was just a mall, very Americanized with nothing special we haven’t seen before. We bought kids overpriced ice cream and went for a very warm walk by the marina, where we saw the cutest “show” ever: seal begging for fish carcasses as fishermen were  dealing with their catch of the day. We quickly got tired of intoxicated almost naked spring breakers, pushy sales people…
