Warning: Completely random thoughts while whipping up majestic fluffy Buffalo avocado dip. Mixing romaine with hot sauce. Frank’s Red Hot sauce smells totally like a pub. Circa 2001. Along with beer, deep fryer’s grease and smoke. You could smoke in bars back then. How much of that did I inhale?! Hot sauce is yummy, the acidic vinegar smells gooooood. I am glad I didn’t add chicken. Anyone can just eat chicken. This dip should be totally veggie loaded. Shock the Super Bowl party food table. Whipping the yogurt with…

Me and Alex do not believe in New Year’s resolutions much because when we decide to do something, we just do it. Whether eating healthy, working out or quitting smoking. I don’t need to be a better mom, be more present in my kids’ lives, spend less time with my phone, watch less TV, work out more, eat healthy etc. I think I pretty much got it all under control by age of 35 (in my own non-perfect way, but I embraced imperfection to a certain degree by…

I’m excited to partner with new Burt’s Bees™ Plant Based Protein Shakes to make a bazillion oatmeal protein waffles. Which can’t be a bad thing, right?! Seriously, breakfast is my biggest struggle. I have said it many times. Usually I’m getting kids ready for school and have zero desire or time to eat. Once the kids are gone, I immediately work out or sit down to work. As a parent you know the value of time. Just like land, they don’t make any more of it. Honestly, breakfasts…

I’m back with my WIAW series. Are you happy? I consider past weekend great in terms of food, balance and fun. Especially after discussing with all of you how we all struggle about the same issue – food, I feel more than ever inspired to share my weekend eats. Interesting enough, talking to all of you in the comments made me realize even more how life is short and is about balance. I thought a lot about what each and everyone of you said because I learn from…

Let me tell you, this cabbage and carrots stir fry is more than dinner. In Ukraine, our meal ritual looked completely different than Canadian one my kids know. It was European way of eating: a filling breakfast like oatmeal or eggs with potatoes before school; a sandwich around 12-1PM; a full lunch at home at 3PM and then dinner around 7-8 PM. Do you notice no snacks? Because there was no pre-packaged foods, toaster or a microwave, our main meals had to be filling till next meal time. Eating old…

A rainbow of red and green in this sauteed garlic broccoli recipe doesn’t make me miss Christmas. The opposite – the smell and pictures sent me almost into tears realizing “oh, how I miss you, summer!” (I know I have big problems in my life, I know). Evening walks, naked legs and light. As much as I love holidays, I’m so happy they are over because the chaos of kids at home and visiting family, which we all know is good in moderation (sorry, mom and boys). The past few days, I…

I just want to let you know that posting myself in a swimsuit as a main shot of the post is completely outside of my comfort zone. But I need to make a point, so I will do it for you. And who knows, maybe Alex will get a promotion. And I need to buy a new bottom piece before March, that doesn’t look like a Speedo. It took me almost 6 years and many diets to develop a healthy relationship with food. It was not about an eating…

I’m slowly getting back to my normal routine here. December was mind blowing with all the Christmas craziness, hockey, Kyle’s almost pneumonia cold and skiing. Having a child born on January 1st extends celebrations well into January making 1.5 months a complete blur of who me and Alex are (more me). I still have a 6 year old’s birthday party to survive and after that when I close my eyes, I will be seeing never ending waves which are getting more and more real. For now, I’m keeping my eyes open…

Sigh. Getting my shield and armour out and diving into this controversial topic of What Is Clean Eating. But for REALZ because I hate BS. You know that. Running a clean eating food blog for 4 years now, I think I’m a bit overdue with clearly explaining what do I preach in my temple. I explain a bit here but I feel like a bigger statement should take place now and put an end to media’s BS. Clean Eating’s False Bad Rep Clean eating was the fastest growing…
