Buffalo cauliflower soup. Everywhere I look I see soup. I mean farmers market, grocery store and fridge. Waking up it is dark. Coming from the rink I am cold. Outside is so wet can’t even open a hottub. It is pouring cats and dogs in Vancouver non-stop. End of October is not the time to visit beautiful PNW. Let me tell you. Neither is November. It is still beautiful but don’t come. I have looked up tickets to Los Cabos in March and I need to rob a bank….

I am such an idiot. The other day while whisking these healthy pumpkin brownies I kept thinking how much I am obsessed with dark chocolate. And how much I love to photograph dark chocolate. So, I took like 50 shots of falling batter, pouring batter and cute little chocolate chips. Just to delete them all the next day. Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah… I also lost a bottle of avocado oil somewhere between Costco and home. Who loses food while driving?! Me! We might find it 6 months later in a trunk somewhere…

Healthy cream of carrot soup made with carrots from Alberta. And potatoes too. Then paprika and coriander fried, of course, with onion and garlic. Everything cooked in homemade chicken stock with tender organic chicken. Yes, you can use store bought to save on time but not money. Depends on a day. I get it. My garage’s floor is covered with bags and boxes lined with newspaper full of mom’s earthy produce. Not exaggerating at all, she brought about 20 lbs of tomatoes, 15 lbs of beets, 30 lbs of potatoes…

Phew, what a week besides yummy pan fried cabbage and pumpkin brownies. So glad it is over! Between trying to regain normal self after a week in an all-inclusive resort without kids, my mom leaving and a painful period, do I need to tell you that I was having a glass of wine every night?! I came to a conclusion that I am better off never pausing and tasting a life without a wallet and with a bunch of servants. As much as heavenly a week in Mexico was, as…

Ever since I posted cauliflower breadsticks recipe over 2 years ago and mentioned that I served them with my mom’s Ukrainian salsa, I have been constantly bombarded with requests for the recipe. I never anticipated “the breadsticks” to be such a hit and least expected Ukrainian salsa to be another hit. Just never know. So, I asked my mom for the recipe and she left the written version in Ukraine and her Canadian version is an eyeballed version. If you ever ask a European woman for a recipe you…

Last time me and Alex went on vacation by ourselves was Las Vegas in 2009 (being non-gamblers and haters of crowds that was probably the last time). When my mom offered to watch our kids this month we knew we had to just run with this opportunity of a decade (if not of a lifetime). Because when next or who else will watch the kids?! At first, we were planning to do a California road trip with the kids but then hockey tryouts got in a way. Thank…

I am adding eggplant vindaloo curry full of healthy fats, carbs, protein and potassium to my meatless quick one pot dinner collection. I am always on a lookout for more quick and affordable plant based dinners. I grew up in a family where a meal without meat is considered not a meal. Still until this day when my mom comes over for a visit I can see she is kind of uncomfortable with my fridge. On one occasion she even asked me to pick her up a steak because she was…

As I was pouring a bowl of steaming squash soup (test recipe) for Carole who cleans my house bi-weekly, I couldn’t stop thinking how food brings people together. I didn’t have to feed Carole. Carole came to clean my house in exchange for money. Coming for 5 hours Carole would have brought a snack with her if she wanted to. And yet pouring Carole a bowl of hot soup on a gloomy rainy day to help brighten her day full of cleaning my toilets felt like the most natural thing…

Aaaand today is the first full day of Kindergarten. Aaaand my organically fed child is sick at home since Friday. Sigh. By this point I am starting to think I might have a kangaroo’s DNA in me. But I am intending to make the best out of this rainy sad Monday by embracing my cleaning lady, doing a killer HIIT workout and blogging what I can. I barely slept last night (just overwhelmed) but I will set that aside too. A few cups of black tea did their…

Things are slowly settling back to normal after summer. Besides my mom coming for a long visit and me and Alex going for a dream team vacation of the decade, we are back to a routine. I did share on Tuesday oh how much I have missed school. I love summer but I equally love the first few months of fall when it is still warm enough, kids are busy and I have time for myself. Even walking by myself, even as close as to and from school makes…
