Black Bean Zucchini Burger

Who doesn’t like a good old juicy burger?! I will be honest and first to admit that I love everything about burger – aromas of grilled meat, messy ketchup and mustard all over my face and fingers, a huge bite, variety of layers, a savoury pickle in the middle, gooey cheese on a patty, a bun with crispy edges. I think pub burgers, heck even McDonald’s burgers, taste delicious! Yes, I think so! Of course I would never eat them because for obvious reasons, and because I can…

Slow Cooker BBQ Baked Beans

These slow cooker BBQ baked beans from scratch were such an accident and yet the most delicious beans you will ever make with the least effort! Great for potlucks and summer BBQ’s (40+ more ideas => healthy potluck recipes). I had a bag of organic dried pinto beans sitting on my pantry floor for months now. It was waiting for beans to be cooked and usually frozen for later use (=> how to cook dried beans), but this week we are expecting a company and I will be making…

88 Superfood Salad Recipes

I LOVE salads! Everyone who knows me in person knows that. I always get asked to bring salads to any gathering. You should love salads too – often cheap, fridge cleaning and waist friendly (if you don’t add a cup of mayo or ranch dressing). This post was so much fun as I don’t remember last time I got to sit on a couch, browse recipes, look at pretty food and just copy paste titles and links all day long. I have included only healthy superfood salad recipes for…

Ukrainian Borscht

I can’t believe it took me 2.5 years since I started blogging to post Ukrainian borscht recipe – a true classic food every Ukrainian grew up on! There are as many variations of a Russian – Ukrainian borscht recipe as there are regions and families. Everyone makes it differently, even within the same family. It can be vegan, vegetarian, with beef, pork or even chicken. All of the girls in my family – mom, grandma, sister, aunt and me, made it differently. That is even in the same kitchen…

Black Bean and Rice Burritos

Holy burritos, I have burnt 8 out of 10 fingers while figuring out how to roll a whole wheat tortilla without breaking it! I completely understand why there are so many recipes with white flour tortillas but those recipes are not for us. No need for them either as I managed to roll these babies up good enough for freezing and my boys not giving me looks what’s on their plate. And these black bean and rice burritos were delicious, filled with all plant-based goodness!

Clean Eating Nacho Kale and Black Bean Bake

This bake is a 30 minute recipe! Vegetarian, cheap and easy. I made this casserole on Sunday night after a day of cleaning and a family walk to a neighbourhood store. I was too tired to cook but was craving greens and veggies for a lighter dinner.

How to Cook Dried Beans

If you are paying $3 for a 14 oz can of organic BPA free beans, I have a solution for you – buy dried beans, cook them and freeze in resealable sandwich bags for later. It is three times cheaper! If you are feeding a family of 3 – 5 people, it takes on average 2 cans of beans to prepare one meal. That is $6 for beans only! However, if you are buying regular canned beans not sure if cooking your own is cheaper. However, wait, why…

Chicken, Cauliflower Rice and Beans

Clean eating dinner recipes seem to be the hottest commodity on iFOODreal. Particularly one pan/pot meals with quinoa or vegetables. I mean, look at the “Popular Recipes” widget on the right. As we all are trying to get rid off a few Holiday lbs (mine are in the lower this time which is something new to me – before it was the mid section), I thought we could all appreciate a quick lightened up classic – chicken, cauliflower rice and beans dish.

Avocado Chickpea Dip

Cheesy appetizers season is upon us, with holidays just around the corner (hard to believe) and all the sports games happening on TV. In my house it’s hockey non-stop. Not to mention rain, snow and cold that makes us spend weekends hibernating and eating. So, I thought you would appreciate a healthier snack option. Those of us who care anyways. A small group of us.:) Me and Alex often wonder why there are no healthy fast food joints and thoughts of opening one appears. However, by passing Costco’s cafe…

One Pan Quinoa Chicken Chili

My kids love Mexican food and this quinoa chicken chili recipe is one of the ways I can get quinoa into them. Personally, I love quinoa more than pasta, but I understand not everyone is a weirdo like me. This dish is also great for all chili lovers as it is ready in under 45 minutes. If you plan ahead, you can also make healthy turkey chili or another very popular recipe of mine crockpot buffalo chicken chili (surprisingly my kids don’t find it spicy and prefer to a…
