This magic bullet green smoothie recipe has been inspired by the recent popularity of juicing and by my neighbours. In an attempt to lose my belly fat I talked to my neighbour who trains NHL players and his wife who looks amazing. Among couple suggestions he gave me was juicing particularly vegetable juicing.
Now, anybody who knows me knows I’m against juices particularly fruit ones. Homemade are a little bit better than store-bought ones but not by much. You are way better off eating the whole fruit or vegetable full of fiber and micro nutrients than drinking squeezed out liquids from it. When you juice a fruit or vegetable, you remove all of the fiber, a key healthy component of fruits and vegetables.
So what are the benefits of juicing then? It will increase your consumption of vegetables thus keeping you full longer which in turn promotes weight loss. When I look at the ingredients list below I can guarantee you there is no way you or me would eat that slice of lemon, a cup of kale or a piece of ginger on it’s own especially first thing in the morning. And I honestly find it hard to eat salad twice a day due to lack of time, the perishability of it and simply it’s boring!
Considering the fact I do not own a good juicer like Vitamix but rather an old good friend Magic Bullet I quickly came up with a recipe for a healthy green smoothie. Only 79 calories per serving, full of vitamin C, rich in calcium and sulforaphane (a chemical with potent anti-cancer properties) and high in potassium this drink will make you feel like a million dollars!
Do not use a regular juicer but rather use blender, Magic Bullet or Vitamix.
Chop up the vegetables ahead and keep them in a container in your fridge for up to 3 days.
If you own Magic Bullet you can prepare the individual cups (no water) and store them in the fridge with the lid on for up to 3 days.
You can also use spinach instead of kale and add a scoop of vegetable protein (I used pumpkin seed protein) for a meal replacement. I tried to add whey protein one time and it was nasty.
Feel free to add 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries. The colour won’t be pretty but who cares?!
