How did life take us to March 2018?!
Are you ready for workouts outside, Lululemon crops and flower sniffing? Anyways, these are my plans, and if things you are mostly looking forward to in spring are different, let your imagination go wild. I recommend to close your eyes when you do that. Here we have been just surviving winter, with lots of kids’ time at home and seems like never ending grocery shopping, cooking, serving and next day it begins all over again.
I’m back at running and started going to a yoga studio. Say whaaat?! Yup, after almost a year break from fitness, I’m back. My body needs it! So, since we have been so actively working out here, Alex suggested we do a Protein Snack March Monthly Series. And I agree!
What Is Monthly Series?
1. On the 1st of every month I will announce a series theme for the upcoming month. Cooking method, an appliance, ingredient etc.
2. During that month make any iFOODreal theme recipe and take a picture.
3. Post on Instagram, Facebook page or Facebook group using #ifoodreal and #ifoodrealmonthly hashtags (you must use both).
February in Review
It was amazing to see your creativity during Healthy Meal Prep February when it came to which recipes you chose to meal prep. I think the biggest surprise to ME was lazy cabbage rolls and crockpot butter chicken. Something so obvious and yet “How I never thought of that?!”. Healthy blueberry muffins and healthy chocolate muffins were super popular (especially among moms).
I have never been huge on actual meal prep-meal prep like putting containers of food in the fridge for a week, and I think I will never be for many reasons like work from home, lack of a microwave, and all recipes I have to constantly work on. However, I learnt that meal prep is not only about 2 compartment containers and I have been doing it for a while now. Rather for a family like ours, meal prep is about cleaning out the fridge, prepping veggies, cooking large batches of soup/stew/casserole, and baking a few batches of muffins.

March Theme – Protein Snacks
Throughout March we will be highlighting snacks made with protein powder. Starting with 16 existing iFOODreal protein snack recipes, a few new ones coming out in March and some necessary picture makeovers.
Here is my take on protein powder. I drink and eat it to cut back on sweet snacks, reduce meat consumption and recover after a workout. I drink and make protein balls with mostly plant-based protein and bake with whey protein powder. Important thing about protein powder in my recipes is to follow recipe’s instructions. Particularly, use plant-based when recipe calls for it, and whey when recipe calls for whey protein powder. They are not interchangeable, 99% the recipe will fail.
Below are my favourites. It’s as per my tastebuds, budget and availability.
Protein Powders I Like
