Remove from heat, add chocolate, vanilla extract, salt, and whisk until smooth and runny. Place right in the pot in the fridge to solidify for about 3-4 hours.
If you're spreading the frosting, chill your baked goods first and then spread. If piping, refrigerate the frosting for a few hours first, then pipe away!
Refrigerate the frosting until ready to assemble the cake or cupcakes for up to 2 days.
Freeze frosting in an airtight container or up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight.
