Cilantro Salmon Tomato Soup

Seriously, THANK YOU SO MUCH for filling out the reader’s survey (you can still do it – I’m still reading). It was so much fun to read your responses since it is mostly me who is talking here. On the weekend, one of my son’s coaches got hit with a puck and it fractured his jaw. POOR GUY, no doubt. He needs a surgery as he couldn’t talk all weekend. But sad things aside, the minute I saw him I thought to myself Alex would like me not talking for a few days. He wouldn’t wish…

Baked Salmon with Cheese Recipe

Last Monday Alex took sockeye salmon fillet from the freezer and declared he will be making salmon stir fry on Tuesday night. Some weekends when both of us get to the end of the rope with life and kids, we go through a 10 minute pointing fingers “you don’t do this, and you don’t do this” exchange of love. Joys of marriage. That made me happy. For about an hour. Typical female behaviour. On Tuesday, I was on a couch thinking how it is our last stash of salmon, how I…

Canned Salmon Salad Recipe

After revealing my love for wild canned salmon, I felt like it was just about time to share my favourite canned salmon salad recipe. In the last year, I found myself buying packs of canned salmon and tuna every Costco trip. I blame it on kids’ hockey which leaves me lifeless by the time weekend rolls in. Anyways… Technically, canned fish is clean food. Yes, it is canned in BPA cans and processed but technically it just has been cooked and preserved with salt and water. So, in my…

Healthy Salmon Burger Recipe

I finally perfected a healthy salmon burger recipe and burgers were to die for! Like those wild salmon burgers from Costco but even better. The best part that homemade burgers contain all ingredients I have control over: wild sockeye salmon (use any, especially affordable pink would be great), red lentils, Dijon mustard, parsley, onions blah-blah-blah. All organic, fresh and the way I like it. Not that Costco salmon burgers are the worst, they are not. In fact, let’s face it – we all gotta eat, at the end of the day. If…

Lime Ginger Salmon

Sockeye salmon fillets marinated with lime zest + juice and freshly grated ginger for 10 minutes, and then quickly broiled. Serve this lime ginger salmon with Cilantro Coconut Brown Rice and you have a refreshing, tasty and healthy dinner in under 30 minutes. You can use any firm wild fish affordable in your area. I can think of halibut, cod, snapper, rockfish. Please buy wild caught only. I explain the problem with farmed fish in detail in this Thai Salmon recipe (another salmon recipe idea for you).

Thai Salmon

In our household, we have been enjoying this Thai salmon with sweet chili sauce for 14 years now. In winter, I bake it in the oven and in summer months Alex grills it on a soaked in water cedar plank. Second version is unbelievable tasty but oven method is as good minus the cedar smoky flavour. Ever since we went 80% organic (=> organic on a budget – 120 cheap organic foods), we are more aware of GMOs and coming up with a homemade version of Thai Sweet Chili Sauce Recipe…

Zucchini Noodle Bowls with Oriental Salmon

This zucchini noodle bowl is a gentle easing in into a cooking routine. I just returned from a very long vacation visiting family in the US and afterwards an all-inclusive resort in Mexico. I truly pulled the plug out as I didn’t come up with a single recipe idea except recreating refried beans and tacos from the restaurant. My days consisted of kids taken care of in a kid’s club (they loved it and we couldn’t pull them out of there), reading a book in a bean bag chair on…

Salmon Lox Recipe

I have been making salmon lox for years. If you have never heard of a lox or gravlax, it is basically raw salmon cured in a mixture of salt and sugar for 24 hours. Very European and Scandinavian thing to make. My clean eating version is made with maple syrup and also contains ground coriander because it adds amazing flavour. I got this recipe idea from a Russian friend years and years ago.

Salmon Stir Fry

Salmon stir fry made with wild salmon, crispy green beans, meaty mushrooms stir fried with soy sauce, ginger and garlic, then topped with sesame seeds and green onions. 20 minute dinner that is high in protein, rich with heart healthy fats and low in carbs. Delicious! My kids were licking the plates. This salmon stir fry reminded me of my favourite Asian fusion restaurant – P.F. Chang’s. We always go there for dinner while in the US. Lots of healthy options, the staff is always welcome to customize your order…

Honey Garlic Salmon

Tender salmon fillets with caramelized honey crust, with a hint of garlic and topped with green onions. Clean, simple and delicious! I served this honey garlic salmon a meal prep style – with cooked quinoa and steamed broccoli. This is how athletes eat. At least, that’s what Instagram tells me.
