Instant Pot Turkey Breast is perfect for small gatherings and is ready in an hour. You can use fresh or frozen meat, brown the skin and make gravy in same pot as well. Isn’t it amazing?!

Don’t have Instant Pot? Make my boneless turkey breast roast or roasted turkey breast. All are delicious, juicy and easy as well!

Pressure Cooker Turkey Breast

Just the two of you? Tired or busy? Make Instant Pot turkey breast. If you don’t want or need to fuss with a huge bird, make your Holiday dinner in Instant Pot. This recipe is very easy and yields the same result – delicious turkey dinner in fraction of time.

Not familiar with Instant Pot? Check out my Instant Pot guide and which Instant Pot I own and recommend to buy.

All you have to do is season the breast, cook it in Instant Pot, broil in the oven quickly and make gravy with drippings right in Instant Pot. And it will be the easiest gravy ever because juices are already seasoned.

I have to say – don’t skip the gravy. No matter what and how you cook turkey, breast is lean and more dry meat than any other bird part. Gravy helps a lot! Just being honest Olena haha.

Types of Turkey Breast You Can Use

Generally, there are 2 types of turkey breast you can buy in a store.

Turkey breasts on a bone removed from a turkey. Photo below shows my 5 lbs turkey breast I got at Costco. Boneless white meat attached to the bone.

Turkey breast meat in a mesh pouch. It is simply meat rolled into a tenderloin that it held together by a mesh. It can be sold in a plastic tray covered with plastic or in a box. Do not remove the mesh or twine.

Frozen turkey breast is an option too. I have tested it and the process is similar to my Instant Pot frozen chicken. You just have to make sure to rinse meat to remove frost for oil and spices to stick. Cooking time will be longer and pressure cooker will take a little bit longer to come to pressure.

How Long to Cook Turkey Breast in Instant Pot

Fresh – 6 minutes per lb with Natural Release (takes about 10-15 minutes):

  • 2 lbs = 12 mins
  • 3 lbs = 18 mins
  • 4 lbs = 24 mins
  • 5 lbs = 30 mins
  • 6 lbs = 36 mins
  • 7 lbs = 42 mins
  • 8 lbs = 50 mins

Frozen – 10 minutes per lb with Natural Release.

  • 2 lbs = 20 mins
  • 3 lbs = 30 mins
  • 4 lbs = 40 mins
  • 5 lbs = 50 mins
  • 6 lbs = 60 mins
  • 7 lbs = 70 mins
  • 8 lbs = 80 mins

I fit in 5 lbs roast into my 6 quart Instant Pot Lux and could fit in up to 7 lbs. 8 quart can hold even 8-9 lbs turkey breast or a whole mini turkey. Do not do Quick Release as meat might be not fully ready and come out dry.

How to Make Instant Pot Turkey Breast Roast

  1. Add 1 cup water and trivet to 6 quart or 8 quart Instant Pot. Mesh roast could fit into 3 quart.
  2. Trim fat, rub turkey breast with oil and sprinkle with spices.
  3. Cook on High pressure as per chart above and let pressure release naturally (NPR).
  4. Remove turkey onto baking sheet and broil until brown and crispy skin.

Tip: I tried to sear turkey breast before cooking on Saute mode and prefer broiling after. Turkey skin comes out more roasted instead of poached. Just remove breast on a baking sheet because it takes “forever” to broil in the stainless steel insert of the pressure cooker.

Make Gravy in Same Pot Too

Now you can make gravy with the drippings right in Instant Pot. How amazing is this?!

And because juices at the bottom are already seasoned, all we have to add is a slurry made with cold water and cornstarch and Saute until thickened.

What to Do with Leftovers

Ah, leftovers. Cooked turkey leftovers freeze very well. Freeze cubed turkey meat in measured out portions in glass containers for casseroles and salad. I freeze carcass in a giant Ziploc bag for soups.

  8. Slice turkey breast roast against the grain with sharp long knife. Serve hot with gravy and your favorite sides like mashed potatoes, cauliflower mash or mashed sweet potatoes.

Store: Refrigerate leftovers for up to 5 days. Or freeze in portions for up to 3 months and use in sandwiches, salads, frittatas, casseroles and soups.
