I told my kids to start making smoothies for an after-school snack to fill up their bellies while me and Alex are finishing up on work. Working from home is a challenge because there is always a distraction, especially after 2:30PM many things go South.

As much as I love baking a batch or two of their favourite healthy banana muffins or healthy chocolate muffins, lately I didn’t have much time for that. I go through stages with everything, just like you. In order to avoid never ending consumption of snack bars, we switched to smoothies.

My boys absolutely love our family’s staple green smoothie recipe. We just turned it into a video last week, so now you have no excuses. This healthy strawberry smoothie is their new favourite. Complete with complex carbs, naturally occuring sugars, fiber and vitamins, this frozen strawberry smoothie is sure to give anyone a boost of energy.

3 of us experimented making a strawberry smoothie without yogurt and then strawberry smoothie with almond milk. We settled on the latter because the first one tasted more like a milkshake. I added a few tablespoons of flaxseed (chia seeds work too) for a nutrition punch. Not only it doesn’t alter the taste, it prevents smoothie from separating for hours. You can serve strawberry smoothie at a brunch!

Stock up your freezer with affordable (organic) frozen fruit from Costco, show kids how to operate the blender and let them explore. I can guarantee they will have fun! Not sure they will clean up, but that was part of the deal when you “signed up”.

How to Make a Strawberry Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups almond milk, unsweetened
  • 2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1 large ripe banana pieces
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds or flaxseed

Instructions

Notes

Use any milk.

Because of flaxseed (chia) strawberry smoothie holds its consistency well for hours, making it perfect for a brunch.
